The Problem
- Lack of supply. Our nation doesn’t have enough child care, especially in rural communities.
- Health and safety. Hazardous conditions in child care facilities are all too common.
- Quality design matters. Children’s development is dependent on thoughtfully designed spaces.

The Solution
BPC and partners have proposed the following solution:
- A national assessment of the condition of existing child care facilities.
- A tiered, competitive grant program to states to support child care facility improvements, with funding for intermediary organizations, such as community development financial institutions.

Working Group
In 2018, BPC launched the Early Learning Facilities Working Group. This diverse group of organizations across child care, housing, and financial services is committed to exposing the critical need for investments in repair, renovations, and construction of child care facilities for our nation’s youngest learners.
