Americans regularly express frustration with Congress and the institution’s approval ratings are nothing short of abysmal. But does public opinion match actual measurements of congressional performance? A newly formed committee in the House of Representatives is examining reforms to modernize the institution and there have been numerous proposals to change the Senate’s rules. That backdrop provides a good opportunity to look at various efforts to measure the state of Congress?including those from BPC, the Brookings Institution, the Center for Effective Lawmaking, the Lugar Center, and the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Join us on March 5 as we measure Congress against several benchmarks and answer the question “How is Congress doing?”
