The EPA’s central mission is to protect human and environmental health as a federal regulatory agency. But it does far more than write and enforce regulations.
States and local communities use EPA programs—like WIFIA financing and the State Revolving Funds—to make critical drinking water and wastewater infrastructure investments. Without this assistance, many systems would struggle to secure the $743 billion in improvements needed over the next 20 years. EPA approves federal environmental reviews and permits, affecting how quickly major infrastructure projects can get built. It also provides technical assistance and guidance on infrastructure development.
Join us during Infrastructure Week 2019 to hear from EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler on the vital but often overlooked role EPA plays in building infrastructure systems for the future, followed by a panel discussion on water infrastructure and affordability.
