On June 19 BPC hosted a presentation by staff of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on their updated health care coverage model. CBO staff walked through proposed refinements that they are in the process of making to update and improve their tools for estimating the effects and scoring the costs of legislation that affects publicly- and privately-funded health insurance, a sector that accounts for nearly 18 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product in 2018. The presentation was followed by a panel of budget and health care policy experts that provided context on the implications of the revised models and their initial reactions to the proposed changes that CBO is in the process of making.
