EPA Regulation: Utility MACT Proposal
On March 16, EPA proposed the Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule, fulfilling a court order to regulate toxic air emissions from power plants. The MACT rule is one of several environmental regulations that will pose challenges for the power sector in the coming years. On March 24, the Bipartisan Policy Center’s energy staff held a briefing on the rule. The discussion focused on key features of the proposal, the costs and benefits of the rule and the issues and points of controversy going forward.
