Spellings: Voters and Election Officials Deserve Clarity

Today Margaret Spellings, president and CEO of the Bipartisan Policy Center, released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s announcement it will rule on former President Donald J. Trump’s eligibility to appear on Colorado’s primary ballot for the 2024 presidential contest.

“The U.S. Supreme Court is the proper forum to determine former President Trump’s eligibility to run for another term under the 14th Amendment,” said Spellings. “Voters deserve clarity about which candidates will be permitted on state ballots, and they should have the opportunity to vote for all eligible candidates. It’s imperative that the justices rule quickly to minimize confusion and reduce the likelihood of errors that could increase distrust in America’s election system.”
