BPC’s Jantarasami Applauds Biden’s Executive Action to Boost U.S. Offshore Wind

Washington, DC – Today, the Biden administration announced new executive actions to address climate change, with an initial focus on extreme heat and offshore wind.

The president’s announcements on offshore wind echo many of the recommendations set forth in the Bipartisan Policy Center’s report Windy Waters: Unlocking the Potential of U.S. Offshore Windthat identified key policies to enable a “whole of government” approach to American offshore wind development, with particular attention to siting, permitting, and financing hurdles.

“Without a concerted national effort to deploy this technology, the United States risks falling behind northern Europe and China, which currently lead the world in offshore wind investments,” said Lesley Jantarasami, managing director of the BPC Energy Program. “Today’s action by the administration to solidify new wind energy areas comes on the heels of a record-breaking federal wind auction that netted more than $4 billion in lease sales and sends a strong signal to the private sector to keep making foundational domestic supply chain and workforce investments.”

Lesley Jantarasami is available for interview.
