BPC Statement on Passing of Sen. Robert F. Bennett

Washington, D.C. – Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet issued the following statement on news of the death of BPC senior fellow and former U.S. Senator Robert F. Bennett:

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Senator Bob Bennett. We will miss his vitality, intellect, optimism, and wonderful stories.

“Bob was guided throughout his life by a deep desire to do what is right, not only for his state, but for his country. He was a man of deep passion and conviction, not to mention a dedication to serving the country, both in the armed forces and in public office. After a long career as a businessman and entrepreneur, Bob’s devotion to service led him to ably serve the people of his beloved Utah for three terms in the Senate.

“Here at BPC, we were honored to have Bob as a member of our Commission on Political Reform, where he pushed to open up the electoral process and reform Senate rules. He was an essential advocate for our work and had a natural gift for interacting with college students and young people, whose passion for public service and policy matched his own.

“Our thoughts are with his wife, Joyce, and their children at this difficult time.”
