“Throughout his career, Steve Stivers has worked across party lines to support programs and initiatives that help strengthen families, encourage upward mobility, and promote economic development,” said Dennis C. Shea, the center’s executive director. “Steve’s expertise, experience, and enthusiasm for expanding affordable housing opportunities is a tremendous asset, and we look forward to working with him to make the center’s vision of an America where every family can live in a safe and affordable home a reality.”
“I am thankful for this opportunity to serve on the J. Ronald Terwilliger Center’s Advisory Committee,” said Stivers. “Throughout my career, including my time in Congress and now in my role with the Ohio Chamber, housing policy reform and economic development as a whole have remained important to me. I look forward to working with the rest of the committee to advance the Terwilliger Center’s noble goal of affordable housing expansion for the benefit of all Americans.”
In May 2021, Steve Stivers was selected to lead the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as president and CEO. The Ohio Chamber of Commerce is the state’s leading business organization whose mission is to aggressively champion free enterprise, economic competitiveness, and growth for the benefit of all Ohioans. Prior to joining the Ohio Chamber, Stivers represented Ohio’s 15th Congressional District from 2011 until 2021. He served on the Financial Services Committee and was the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance.
The J. Ronald Terwilliger Center for Housing Policy is committed to advancing public policies that support broad access to affordable housing. Achieving this goal requires comprehensive, sustained action at all levels of government to address the severe shortage of affordable homes for both rent and sale, while ensuring that America’s lowest-income families can obtain the housing assistance they need.
At the heart of today’s housing affordability crisis is the acute shortage of affordable rental homes and entry-level homeownership options. One of the Advisory Committee’s first actions this year was to encourage Congress to make addressing our nation’s housing affordability crisis a top legislative priority.
