Statement on the Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump

Washington, DC — “On behalf of the Bipartisan Policy Center, we condemn the violence at yesterday’s rally,” said BPC President and CEO Margaret Spellings. “Candidates for public office—up and down the ballot—must be free from threats and danger. The basic principles of our democracy are free expression of views, civil debate, and peaceful resolution of our differences. We all need to renew our commitment to those principles.

“We are grateful that former President Trump was not seriously hurt and extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to him, his family, and the other victims of this heinous attack.”
