Washington, DC – Today, former U.S. Senator Majority Leader and BPC Co-Founder George J. Mitchell and former U.S. Senator and BPC Senior Fellow Olympia Snowe issued a public letter to the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety as a direct follow-up from the one-year workshop held on September 17 at the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC). The Senators convened the workshop to evaluate ongoing work by the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety to improve safety and working conditions in Bangladeshi garment factories. Today’s letter recommends coordination and cooperation among safety initiatives; worker surveys to measure impact; helpline implementation; and strong involvement by the government of Bangladesh.
