Sen. Orrin Hatch and Jason Furman to Keynote Retirement Security Discussion

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Could a Republican Congress and a Democratic president find consensus on retirement security?

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch has a long record of crafting conservative public policy. Jason Furman, the chairman of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, has championed the progressive priorities of the Obama administration. Yet both of these policymakers have shown the ability and willingness to work towards bipartisan consensus on major policy issues. While their specific proposals may differ, both want to encourage more Americans to save for retirement and strengthen Social Security for the seniors of today and tomorrow. Where can these two leaders on opposite sides of the aisle find common ground?

On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, join us to hear these two leading policymakers, as well as two panels of experts from across the political spectrum, offer their thoughts on how we can improve retirement security. One panel will focus on ways the current Congress, particularly with the upcoming exhaustion of the Disability Insurance Trust Fund, can strengthen the solvency of Social Security while improving benefits for those who depend most on the program. The second panel will then discuss how innovative policy solutions can promote expanded savings and retirement income.
