Congress Takes Long Overdue Step to Assert Constitutional Authority

Washington, D.C.– The following is a statement from BPC president Jason Grumet:

“Today’s Senate resolution to terminate President Trump’s national emergency declaration was adopted with significant bipartisan support. This vote, combined with last month’s House action, is an important step towards Congress asserting its Constitutional authorities over appropriations. The president’s attempt to end-run the legislative process threatens lasting damage to our democracy. Congress’ reassertion of authority is long overdue.”
