BPC’s Theresa Cardinal Brown on DACA Ruling by the U.S. District Court

Washington, DC – After today’s U.S. District Court ruling that blocks new applications for the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals from being processed, Theresa Cardinal Brown, managing director of immigration and cross-border policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center, released the following statement:

“We have expected this ruling for some time, and it is unfortunate DACA recipients have been forced to live with this sword of Damocles over them for many years.

“BPC has always believed a permanent solution can only be achieved through legislation. We will continue to advocate for Congress and the White House to work together on a bipartisan bill that provides legal status and a path to citizenship for these people who only want to make their lives here.

“Congressional legislation that would achieve this objective has existed for years, and public polling shows there is broad support among voters in both parties on this issue. It is time for lawmakers to make good on their promise and get this done.”
