BPC Welcomes David Lapan to Communications Team

Washington, D.C.– The Bipartisan Policy Center is pleased to announce that David A. Lapan, a former spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon, will join BPC as the Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs.

Lapan, who will start at BPC on Oct. 30, will be in charge of strategic communications for the Washington think tank, which was founded 10 years ago by four former Senate majority leaders. BPC develops and advocates pragmatic solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing issues including national security, health care, and immigration.

“BPC is fortunate to be joined by someone with David’s knowledge, experience and commitment to national service. Dave’s leadership roles at DHS, DOD, with the Joint Chiefs, and at the Military Child Education Coalition will bring important insights to BPC’s key initiatives,” said BPC President Jason Grumet.

With over 30 years of public service, Lapan has senior communications leadership experience that includes: deputy assistant secretary at DHS (2017), a senior director at the Military Child Education Coalition (2015-2017), special assistant for public affairs to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (2011-2013), and deputy assistant secretary of Defense for media operations (2010-2011).

“BPC was created to support the hard work required to bring people together. David has a stellar reputation as a straight shooter who is focused on the mission and committed to success. He is a perfect fit for BPC,” said BPC Board Chair Frank Keating
