BPC Statement on Shuster Infrastructure Plan

Washington, D.C.– Statement from Douglas L. Peterson, President and Chief Executive Officer of S&P Global and co-chair of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Executive Council on Infrastructure, on the release of House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster’s (R-PA) infrastructure plan:

“The extent of our nation’s infrastructure crisis is now massive, with about $3 trillion in infrastructure needs. While it’s easy to conclude that more funding is the answer, projected federal deficits and strapped state and local governments necessitate more comprehensive solutions.

“BPC’s Executive Council on Infrastructure applauds Chairman Shuster for putting forth a thoughtful proposal with much to like. Instead of kicking the can further down the road, this plan includes a path toward solvency of the Highway Trust Fund, support for public-private partnerships, and measures to accelerate project delivery and add transparency to the permitting process.

“While there are differing opinions on how best to modernize America’s infrastructure systems and pay for it, Congress should work deliberately to build off Chairman Shuster’s efforts and pass a bipartisan infrastructure package.”
