BPC Congratulates Sec. Sonny Perdue on Confirmation to Lead Dept. of Agriculture

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Washington, D.C.– Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet made the following statement on the confirmation of former Georgia governor Sonny Perdue to head the Department of Agriculture:

“Sonny Perdue has been a friend of the Bipartisan Policy Center for many years, and we are delighted he has been confirmed to head the Department of Agriculture. Alongside former agriculture secretaries Dan Glickman, a BPC senior fellow and co-chair of the Commission on Political Reform, and Ann Veneman, co-chair of our prevention initiative, Sonny continues what is now a real tradition of BPC connection to USDA.

As a member of BPC’s Governors’ Council and as co-chair of our Nuclear Waste Council, Sonny was a champion for deliberation, discussion, and collaboration.

“As a member of BPC’s Governors’ Council and as co-chair of our Nuclear Waste Council, Sonny was a champion for deliberation, discussion, and collaboration. I trust he will bring that same constructive approach to USDA. We look forward to working with Sec. Perdue in his new post on a range of issues.”
