BPC Commends House Energy and Commerce Committee for Introducing 21st Century Cures Draft Legislation

Washington, D.C. – The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) issued the following statement by Bill Hoagland, BPC senior vice president and Janet Marchibroda, director of BPC’s Health Innovation Initiative, regarding the introduction of 21st Century Cures discussion draft legislation:

“BPC commends House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Ranking Member Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Health Subcommittee Chairman Joe Pitts (R-PA), and Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Gene Green (D-TX) for their tireless efforts on developing and releasing the bipartisan 21st Century Cures draft legislation.

“Under leadership of former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D. and former Congressman Bart Gordon, BPC launched FDA: Advancing Medical Innovation to develop and advance bold, viable policy changes to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of safe and effective drugs and medical devices in America.

“BPC looks forward to continuing to work with House Energy and Commerce and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee leaders on these important issues, which afford tremendous opportunity for providing hope for patients and accelerated progress on research, new medicines and treatments.”
