BPC Applauds Momentum on Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024

Washington, DC – Today, BPC released the below statement following the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s markup of the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024, led by committee Chairman Joe Manchin (I-WV) and ranking member Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY). The legislation was reported out of committee by a bipartisan vote of 15-4.

“We applaud and congratulate Sens. Joe Manchin (I-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY), and all the members and staff of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, for their work to get to where we are today: a bipartisan, 15-4 vote to move the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 forward,” said Sasha Mackler, executive director for energy at the Bipartisan Policy Center. “This legislation, formed over years of bipartisan conversations, presents a crucial opportunity to pass reforms that can ensure affordable, reliable energy while reducing emissions. We are especially proud that many of the bill’s provisions align with BPC’s proposed policy options. We are committed to building on those efforts and continuing to work with Congress to get this bipartisan bill across the finish line and signed into law.”

The Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 marks a critical step to improve the permitting process while simultaneously increasing efficiency, protecting the environment, and strengthening national security.
