Tabassum Zakaria

Tabassum (Toby) Zakaria is a senior advisor to BPC’s communications team. She is a former journalist with more than 20 years of experience covering Washington. She is a former White House correspondent who covered the second term of President George W. Bush for Reuters as part of the press pool that traveled with the president on Air Force One. She has also reported on Congress with a focus on budget and tax issues, and is a former chairwoman of the Standing Committee of Congressional Correspondents.

Zakaria has written extensively about national security, intelligence, and foreign policy issues, including on Iran, Syria, cybersecurity, and the National Security Agency. She has traveled with the U.S. defense secretary and other U.S. officials to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. She received the 2004 Reuters Journalist of the Year award for Iraq WMD coverage.

Zakaria earned a M.A. in journalism from New York University.
