Retired Chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin. Former Undersecretary of the Army and former Professor at Princeton University School of Engineering and Applied Science. Former Chairman of the American Red Cross, the Association of the U.S. Army, the National Academy of Engineering, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Aerospace Industries Association. Former president of the Boy Scouts of America, recipient of National Medal of Technology and five-time recipient of the Department of Defense Civilian Distinguished Service Medal. Principal author of the “Augustine Report” on the U.S. space program and Chairman of the committee that produced the Congressionally mandated “Gathering Storm” report on America’s global competitive position. Former Chairman of the Senior Management Review Board of the National Institutes of Health and served 16 years on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Recipient of honorary doctorates from 35 universities, author or co-author of five books and traveled in 130 countries, including standing on both the North and South Poles of the Earth.
