Katherine Mercado is a Project Assistant for BPC’s Early Childhood Initiative. Before joining BPC, she was an intern at the National Women’s Law Center where she conducted research on state child care policies and drafted weekly memos for national coalition and state partners, as well as curated fact sheets for state and national advocates and federal and state policymakers. In addition to this, Mercado authored a blog where she brought the experiences of a nanny working in the greater D.C. area for over 22 years to light.
Mercado graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Community and Nonprofit Leadership with a minor in Public Policy. During her time at UW-Madison, Mercado helped jumpstart a story-based map presentation for the purposes of education, and grant proposals for the Wisconsin Latinx History Collective, a group of scholars and researchers committed to documenting the history of Latinx peoples in Wisconsin.
