Janet Pitt is BPC’s Director of Outreach. Before joining BPC, she spent fourteen years as chief of staff, protocol and special events to Ambassador Esther Coopersmith, former US Ambassador to the United Nations. In this role she worked to bring people together to help discuss and solve world issues. She organized events to allow people who might not ordinarily meet each other, such as high level government officials, corporates, non-profits, think tanks, and private donors to network, strategize and generate ideas together. Pitt has engaged with various organizations to promote UNESCO and World Heritage, Women’s health, cultural diplomacy, girls education, and the Arts as well as raise money and awareness for causes including poverty in Southeast Asia, peace in the Middle East, and domestic political candidates.
Prior to that she spent a number of years in the corporate world in marketing and sales, responsible for marketing strategy, product planning and development, competitive positioning, market research, and marketing communication for United Healthcare. She began her career working for IBM and marketing all of IBM’s products and services to its customers in the financial industry, both international and domestic.
Pitt has served on the boards of the American Committee for Tyre and OWL, the Voice of Women 40+. In addition she has served on the MS Society Ambassadors Ball and Moment Gala Planning Committees and the Women’s Committee of the Washington National Opera. She is a member of the Protocol Officers Association.
A native Washingtonian, Pitt graduated magna cum laude from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing and completed a certificate program in Executive Education at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
