Calvin Harris is BPC’s senior manager of public affairs. In this capacity he works alongside BPC’s experts to increase the visibility of regional, state, and local efforts to better inform the federal decision-making process.
Harris joined BPC from the Council on Foundations where he served as marketing and communications manager. Prior to joining the council, Harris served as a regional press secretary for StudentsFirst, a national education reform group founded by former Washington D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee. Harris managed the day-to-day press operations of StudentsFirst across several states, developing and implementing communication strategies to support the organization’s legislative and advocacy work.
Harris developed a wide range of communication skills during his tenure with the public affairs practice of SKDKnickerbocker. Harris also held stints with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Show-Me Institute, and Dewey Square Group.
A native of St. Louis, Harris is a graduate of Morehouse College and the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. He was also selected as a PPIA Fellow in the Ford School at University of Michigan.
