Terrorist Groups 101

Since 9/11, the al-Qaeda threat has become more diffuse. Today, al-Qaeda and its allied groups maintain a presence in some 16 different countries – compared with around half that number a decade ago. Additionally, there are a wide range of active terrorist groups with no clear organizational or operational links to the al-Qaeda core. This document is a resource meant to provide basic information on a variety of terrorist groups currently operating around the world, including information on their capabilities, recent activities, leadership and areas of influence.
