Letter to Senate Committee on Armed Services Chairman Levin and Ranking Member McCain from BPC Foreign Policy Director Michael Makovsky

“The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) Iran Task Force strongly believes that a nuclear Iran represents the most pressing threat to the national security of the United States. Earlier this year, our task force, co-chaired by Senator Charles Robb and General Charles Wald (ret.), authored a report entitled Meeting the Challenge: Stopping the Clock, which calls for a robust triple-track strategy towards Iran, involving the simultaneous pursuit of diplomacy, sanctions, and visible credible preparations for a military option.

“I write to ask that you include provisions to the FY2013 national defense authorization act (NDAA) similar to the House-passed version, which supports military action to stop Iran’s nuclear development. The House Armed Services Committee’s version of H.R. 4310 closely reflects the core message from our report calling for a stronger credible threat.”
