Letter to Majority Leader Reid and Minority Leader McConnell from 9/11 Commission Co-Chairs Tom Kean and Lee Hamilton

“We write to urge the U.S. Senate to take up cyber security legislation in the near future. Recently, the Director of National Intelligence and the FBI Director both warned Congress about the advanced nature of the cyber threat. These warnings should not be ignored.

“Much like the situation before the September 11th, 2001, attacks, the federal government is not adequately organized to deal with a significant emerging national security threat. With cyber attacks becoming more sophisticated and pervasive, it is paramount that the federal government take the steps necessary to prepare the nation to prevent and mitigate the effects of potentially catastrophic cyber attacks on the nation’s critical infrastructure.”
