Physical activity plays a key role in improving health. Inactive adults have a greater risk of early death, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers. Yet less than half of American adults meet the recommended guidelines for daily physical activity.
Employers—who bear about one-half of health care costs in the United States—can play a critical role in improving the level of physical activity among individuals.
BPC’s Health Innovation Initiative hosted a discussion with business leaders and experts on health and wellness to explore employer strategies that promote physical activity within their organizations and communities. The event also highlighted key findings from a physical activity challenge conducted by BPC’s CEO Council on Health and Innovation which were summarized in an article published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
