Over the last several months, the Zika virus has dominated headlines as it continues to spread throughout the Americas. The U.S. government and private sector entities have initiated preparedness and response efforts. However, in light of the partisan stalemate in the political battle on emergency Zika funding, progress on several of these efforts may be in jeopardy.

As the possibility of local transmission in the continental United States looms and 350,000-500,000 international visitors prepare to travel to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics, the nation waits for what this pandemic will bring next. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke about the current state of Zika and its future in the United States and abroad.
