Housing America’s Military Families

The Department of Defense relies on local communities near military bases for housing, with approximately 60% of service members in the U.S. living off-base. However, military personnel and their families are finding housing costs and relocation issues increasingly expensive, stressful, and burdensome. Recent surveys from groups such as Blue Star Families reveal housing affordability and increasing rental costs are top concerns for off-base military households, many of which pay well over a third of their income on housing.
In this event, panelists will discuss the causes and repercussions of high housing costs on military families and highlight proposals to ensure military families have access to decent, safe, and affordable homes.
