The Board of Trustees for the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds release their annual reports the week of June 11 on the financial challenges facing the two programs. These reports are critical benchmarks for policymakers and the public to understand the state of the trust funds, whose financial future will affect the millions of people who benefit from and pay taxes into these programs. This year’s reports are particularly noteworthy, as recent changes in tax policy, demographics, and health care policy could affect the trustees’ projections.

On June 6, BPC hosted the former public trustees for Social Security and Medicare and the Chief Actuary for Social Security to discuss key takeaways from the 2018 Social Security and Medicare Trustees’ reports.
