The pandemic elevated the critical importance of housing stability, quality, safety, and affordability—and policymakers responded with unprecedented levels of housing assistance. Yet many struggling families still face the threat of eviction or foreclosure, while rising prices and limited supply are hamstringing would-be homeowners. Longstanding racial inequities—evident in disproportionately high housing costs, entrenched segregation and poverty, and stark disparities in homeownership and family wealth—remain unaddressed too.
