Mel Martinez Charts a Course for a Housing Recovery

Last week, Housing Commission Co-Chair Mel Martinez delivered an address as part of the John T. Dunlop Lecture series at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Martinez, a former U.S. senator and Housing and Urban Development secretary, outlined his vision for the future of housing policy, calling on policymakers of both political parties to work to repair the nation’s housing finance system. In making the connection between a healthy housing market and a strong economy, he offered recommendations for persistent challenges such as access to credit, foreclosures, and the increasing demand for multifamily and rental housing.
