Information Disorder

Fake news and misinformation dominate today’s headlines, but identifying and understanding these issues can be difficult. Information disorder refers to the many ways our digital environment is polluted with misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation (MDM). The mass consumption of misleading or harmful information poses many challenges to our society such as encouraging confirmation bias and echo chambers, polarizing society, influencing public opinion, or undermining democratic elections and institutions. Understanding this landscape is imperative for policymakers, researchers, journalists, and the general public who want to learn how such content spreads and the real-world harms.
