Shifting U.S. demographics no guarantee for Democratic Party’s victory in 2012 elections

“Long term demographics look good for Democrats. Especially the Hispanic vote will grow as a percentage of the electorate, and Republicans get about one-third of that vote,” said John Fortier, director of the democracy project at the Bipartisan Policy Center. “But matters of turnout and the persuasion of independent voters could result in a much greater shift in the electorate than the slowly improving demographics for Democrats.”
