The objective of the Regional Climate Impacts and Adaptation project is to assess the potential effects of climate change in the medium and long term – 25 to 75 years – on particular economic sectors in specific regions of the United States and to facilitate the development of sound, evidence-based, regional adaptation policies.
To achieve this objective, NCEP has worked with policymakers and scientists in key states to better understand the risks and to aid in the design of smart and effective policies that would mitigate impacts and help in the planning for the potential effects from a changing climate. The intent is to identify and use reasonable, middle of the road projections, as this effort is not designed to project “worst case” outcomes.
By articulating narrow and quantifiable ecological and economic risks, the project has informed policymakers, generated widespread news coverage, and witnessed substantial policy action.
