Grumet: Senate Energy Bill a Foundation for Economic Growth

Washington, D.C. – Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet issued the following statement on Senate passage of the Energy Policy Modernization Act:

“American innovation has dramatically changed the ways we produce, use, and save energy. Over the last decade, our nation has moved from a position of energy scarcity to a posture of abundance, diversity, and security. The Energy Policy Modernization Act makes important strides to capture and manage the incredible benefits of American ingenuity and our abundant natural resources. The Bipartisan Policy Center commends Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) for their foresight and leadership.

“Through investments in energy efficiency and infrastructure, support for the next generation of energy technologies being developed through ARPA-E, and reauthorizing critical aspects of the America COMPETES Act, the Energy Policy Modernization Act embraces technological progress and creates a new foundation for U.S. economic growth.

“This is what thoughtful, pragmatic, and determined lawmaking looks like. Murkowski and Cantwell brought their colleagues together in a substantive, collaborative, and deliberative process. Senate leadership should also be commended for overcoming a myriad of obstacles and election year politics to pass meaningful bipartisan energy legislation.”
