Washington, D.C. – As President Obama prepares to give the first State of the Union address of his second term, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) will host White House speechwriters from the Obama, Bush and Clinton administrations for a conversation about what to expect in the address, as well as the Republican response. The event, entitled, State of the Union: The Speechwriters’ Perspective, will begin at 8:30AM next Tuesday, February 12.
Washington Post opinion writer and MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart will moderate the discussion with panelists Don Baer, former speechwriter to President Bill Clinton and Worldwide Chair and CEO of Burson-Marsteller; Adam Frankel, former speechwriter to President Barack Obama and Executive Director of Digital Promise; John McConnell, former speechwriter to President George W. Bush; and Jeff Shesol, former speechwriter to President Clinton and Partner of West Wing Writers.
BPC Vice President of Communications and former Communications Director for U.S. Senator John McCain, Eileen McMenamin, will make opening remarks.
