Washington, D.C. – The co-chairs of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Energy Project, former Senators Byron Dorgan and Trent Lott, General James L. Jones USMC (Ret.) and former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator William Reilly issued the following statement after the President signed into law H.R. 6582, the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act:

“The Bipartisan Policy Center’s Energy Project welcomes and supports Congress and the President’s commitment to energy efficiency by approving H.R. 6582, the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act. The Act will develop efficiency standards for select appliances, consolidate other standards and strengthen Federal agency energy efficiency programs. We hope all policymakers continue to work in this spirit of bipartisanship.

“As our recommendations will show in 2013, energy efficiency plays a key role in a strategic, national energy policy. Crafting strategic energy policy, however, requires leadership, compromise and bipartisanship. This bill is proof that we can move beyond our differences to focus on policies that are beneficial to and necessary for a balanced national energy portfolio.

“We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress on other bipartisan energy policy recommendations that we plan to release in early 2013, in addition to our recent recommendations on executive branch energy policy organization, The Executive Branch and National Energy Policy: Time for Renewal.”
