Washington, D.C. - The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) will resume its 2012 Election Series with a focused conversation on the decline of moderate Republicans next Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

At the event, expert panelists will evaluate how during recent election cycles both political parties have experienced more clearly divided conservative and liberal camps. Panelists Dan Balz, Washington Post’s Chief Political Correspondent and a New York Times bestselling author; Steve Hayward, F.K. Weyerhaeuser Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; Lee Huebner, a founding member of The Ripon Society and former speechwriter for President Richard Nixon; and Geoffrey Kabaservice, author of the recently released Rule and Ruin: The Downfall of Moderation and the Destruction of the Republican Party From Eisenhower to the Tea Party; will join John Fortier, Director of BPC’s Democracy Project.

The recent exit of centrist Republican Senator Olympia Snowe, as well as Senator Orrin Hatch’s failure to capture the Utah GOP nomination last Saturday, has furthered an ongoing conversation about how our elected officials are able to achieve compromise while representing the constituents of polarized public opinions. Panelists will debate the question: Where have all of the moderate Republicans gone?

Stay tuned for a future event on the decline of Blue Dogs in the Democratic Party, “The Vanishing Moderate Democrat.”
