Washington, D.C. - The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) will host a press conference with former 9/11 Commission Chairman Tom Kean, a co-chair of BPC’s National Security Preparedness Group (NSPG), to release a new report on counter-radicalization this Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Washington, D.C.
Following remarks by Governor Kean, NSPG member Peter Bergen, Director of the National Security Studies Program at the New America Foundation, and BPC Visiting Scholar Peter Neumann, Founding Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King's College London, will discuss the new report titled, Preventing Violent Radicalization in America. Siobhan Gorman of The Wall Street Journal will moderate the discussion.
The report includes recommendations about ways to improve the government’s counter-radicalization messaging, outreach and engagement, and training activities. The report also details a coherent strategy to counter violent radicalization that involves federal, state, and local government officials, as well as non-profit and private sector entities. Governor Kean, Congressman Hamilton, and members of NSPG have been meeting with top intelligence and law enforcement officials to assess how the terrorist threat has changed in recent years.
Governor Kean, as well as other members of NSPG, will take questions at the press conference and will be available for interviews following the event. For more information, please visit www.bipartisanpolicy.org.
