Washington, D.C. - The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) announced today that it will host an educational briefing on cyber security with former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff. The educational briefing, Cyber ShockWave: Ensuring We’re Ready, will take place on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 2:00PM. The briefing will be held in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 253.
The BPC hosted Cyber ShockWave, a simulated cyber attack on the United States, in February. The simulation brought together a bipartisan group of former senior administration and national security officials playing the roles of Cabinet members. Secretary Chertoff served as the National Security Advisor during the exercise, leading the group as it mounted a response to the attack. Participants concluded that the U.S. needs to do more to be adequately prepared for such an attack.
At Monday’s briefing, Secretary Chertoff will describe how the Cyber ShockWave scenario was developed and lead a discussion with experts from the industry about the technical and policy questions it raised. Following the panel discussion, Secretary Chertoff and the panelists will take questions from the audience.
