This event has passed.
The ongoing debate on how the nation should deal with its nuclear waste – whether attributable to active or inactive plants – has yet to produce broadly acceptable solutions. As part of its nuclear waste initiative, the Bipartisan Policy Center partnered with the San Onofre Community Engagement Panel (CEP) to host a public discussion at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center in California. The San Onofre CEP has facilitated public engagement on decommissioning the plant, including the need for on-site storage until the Department of Energy takes possession of spent nuclear fuel. The conversation focused on nuclear waste policy at the federal level and how California and local communities may help advance potential solutions.
