The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) held

A Path to Fiscal Health

Featuring Special Guest

Congressman Steny Hoyer

Democratic Whip, U.S. House of Representatives

With Introductions by

Senator Pete Domenici Secretary Dan Glickman

BPC Senior Fellows

As we approach the debt limit, Rep. Hoyer argued that Congress must pay the bills our nation has incurred-not hold the economy hostage in an effort to enact ideological agendas. In his speech, Rep. Hoyer discussed the range of fiscal plans that have been put forward-including the House-passed Republican budget, the recommendations of the president’s bipartisan fiscal commission, the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Rivlin-Domenici plan, and the ongoing negotiations of the Senate’s Gang of Six-and show that a workable solution must put everything on the table: revenues, entitlements, and discretionary spending, both defense and non-defense. He also argued for a fiscal approach that strengthens our economy and preserves economic fairness for all Americans.
