Who: Robin Schepper, Senior Advisor to BPC’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Initiative
What: At the APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition, Robin Schepper will discuss the power of large institutions and community partnership in shaping healthy lifestyles, since large organizations hold tremendous potential to change the lives of millions of Americans. Robin Schepper will also explain the necessity for improved nutrition and physical activity to promote and enable healthy lifestyles.

Who: Commission on Political Reform
What: As part of the Commission on Political Reform, BPC will host a “Women as Leaders” forum featuring former Senators Olympia Snowe and Blanche Lincoln, former Secretary Ann M. Veneman, and former White House Budget Director Dr. Alice Rivlin. We’ll delve deeper into this conversation with these women who have served in public office, discussing how they got their start, what factors helped them in their careers and what obstacles they encountered, as well as what their presence means to these institutions as a whole, and how we can encourage more women to run for office. The panel will be moderated by Kathleen Koch, Former CNN Correspondent.

Who: G. William Hoagland, Senior Vice President of the Bipartisan Policy Center
What: Bill Hoagland will be part of Finance for Nonfinancial Managers, a course from the Brookings Executive Education program. Participants in the program will discovers how to ensure funds are used consistently with their appropriations, develop a business case for outsourcing, and prioritize projects to maximize limited resources.

What: American University’s Center for Environmental Policy will be hosting The Future of Water Forum, at the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco for a panel discussion on the future of waters. Please RSVP to [email protected].

Who: Former Senator Byron L. Dorgan, BPC Senior Fellow
What: Join DCBIA, a premier association of professionals working to promote real estate development as an engine of economic growth in the nation’s capital, at the National Press Club for Federal Government Actions Impact Development Industry. The event will focus on the government shutdown’s impact on the economy, GSA and local realtors.

Who: Dan Glickman, BPC Senior Fellow
What: The Atlantic presents: “Overweight Nation: Paths Forward for a Healthier America” at the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, VA. Former Secretary of Agriculture and Senior Fellow at BPC, Dan Glickman will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Steve Clemons, Editor-at-Large of The Atlantic. Attending the event will be a well informed audience of both medical professionals and laymen, and the panel will also be live streamed to a broader audience.

Who: Charlie Gonzalez, BPC’s Commission on Political Reform Commissioner; Former U.S. Representative (D-TX)
What: Former US Representative Charlie Gonzalez will be the keynote speaker at a meeting hosted by the Bandera County Democratic Club on Saturday, Nov. 9. The meeting will be held at the Bandera Electric Cooperative. The public is invited to hear this dynamic leader speaking on important current issues.

Who: G. William Hoagland, Senior Vice President of the Bipartisan Policy Center
What: Join George Mason University in “The Federal Budget Crisis: To the Brink and Back”, a special event at the National Academy of Public Administration. Experts will discuss the federal budget crisis and prospects for short and long-term resolution. The panel will focus on the federal budget process, congressional polarization, the role of presidential leadership and other facets of fiscal dysfunction and resurrection.

Wednesday, November 13
8:30AM to 10:30AM
Who: Margot Anderson, Executive Director of the Energy Project
What: National Journal is hosting Powering Innovation: Technology and Our Energy Future at the Ronal Reagan Building. Recent energy debates in Washington have focused mostly on government policies, including climate and clean energy standards, that could help increase the use of American resources, shift to cleaner sources of energy and help reduce air emissions. This event will explore the importance of research and development in America’s new energy landscape. Speakers include Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W), Margot Anderson, Michael Brower and Janet Peace. The panel discussion will be moderated by Amy Harder.

Who: William K. Reilly, Co-Chair of Strategic Energy Policy Initiative, BPC
What: National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation will be hosting the 2013 Independent Borrowers Leadership Summit (IBLS) at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Fort Meyers, Florida. CFC’s Independent Borrowers Summit (IBLS) is designed for key staff and board members of CFC independent borrower systems. The IBLS provides independent borrowers with the latest information on financial and business issues critical to their success and opportunities to network with industry peers.

Who: G. William Hoagland, Senior Vice President of the Bipartisan Policy Center
What: Bill Hoagland will be speaking at “What Should National Security Cost?”, which is part of the Defense One Summit in the Grand Hyatt Washington. The session features a discussion of the Pentagon’s budget challenges and the cost pressures faced by senior national security leaders.

Who: General James L. Jones, USMC (ret.), BPC Senior Fellow
What: General James L. Jones, will address delegates at the 2013 Cooperative Network Annual Meeting at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota. The topic of General Jones’ talk will be “The National Security Implications of Domestic Energy Development”, where he will discuss energy as a national security issue.
