Fellow Fridays is a series of profiles of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s roster of fourteen Senior Fellows. This week, we are sharing advice from former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman. He co-chairs BPC’s Commission on Political Reform and Nutrition and Physical Activity Initiative.
On Partisanship:
I think that the hyper-partisanship is harming America. I think we are always going to have partisanship and that’s healthy. People should have strong views. I think the fact that there seems to be less likelihood to try to reach consensus, to try to work together across party labels, across the aisle is hurting the country.

On his Advice to Members:
To today’s freshman, I say don’t be afraid to question the status quo. Folks back at home like it, and it shows you haven’t been taken up by the system. And don’t lose the ability to laugh at yourself.
