Slade Gorton was a United States Senator from Washington State from 1981 until 1987, and again from 1989 until 2001. In 2002 he became a member of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (popularly known as the "9/11 Commission") and the commission issued its final report in 2004. Slade served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1959-1969, and was the majority leader from 1967-1969. He was the Washington State Attorney General from 1969-1981. In between serving in both the United States Army and Air Force, he received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his law degree from Columbia University. He currently works at the law firm of K&L Gates.
